As part of its strategic planning process, the Garden City Public Library Board of Trustees were looking at creative, cost effective ways to expand the Library’s footprint at its City Hall location to accommodate its growing success in providing programs promoting life-long learning for all ages (800+ programs per year).
At the same meeting, the Trustees also recognized that in this city with no “Main Street” or historic Downtown gathering spaces, and two major highways dissecting its business corridors, the Garden City Library had a singular role in the community that went well beyond the efficient exchange of reading materials...it had become a gathering place, a beloved “hub” of the community.
The intersection of the need for more space to accommodate Library programs and embracing the siingular role of the Library as a hub of the community at the same Trustee strategic planning meeting resulted in the first steps toward planning to use the green space adjacent to the City Hall/Library building and the Greenbelt along the Boise River for an extension of the Library...an outdoor extension that has become the Legacy Courtyard at the Garden City Library.
