AIC Highlights Noteworthy People

Check out noteworthy things being done and honors received by people in Idaho cities around the state.

After 27 years with the Caldwell Police Department, Cpl. John Baldazo has retired.

Caldwell Police Officer Kenny Branstetter recently graduated from POST.

The City of Caldwell has recently hired several new people: Servando Contreras, Christina Gurrola, and Jacob Blondon, Police Department; Drew McConnell and Bradford (Brad) Stewart, Fire Department; Jake Wood, Plumbing Inspector, Building Department; Kristen Nicholes, Library Circulation Assistant; Kacey Teichert, Recreation Administrative Secretary; and Stephen Glaze, Street Maintenance Worker.

The 18th annual Caldwell Mayor’s Scholarship Golf Scramble wah held recently. Third place went to the US Bank Team of Tracy Silver, Chris Jeppsen, Eric Staab, Justin Smith, and Larry Silver; Second place went to the Mayor’s Team of Garret Nancolas, Shawnie Dakan, Tom Dale, Jeff Osgood, and Tyler Osgood; and First place went to the Old Vikes/Sleep Right Idaho Team of Zak Miller, Roarke Miller, Justin Crawford, Kyle Miller, and Brad Molitor. The ONLY Hole-in-one in the 18-year history of the event was made by Peggy Lynn.

Stephen John Boorman, PE, has been selected as the new Assistant General Manager of Idaho Falls Power.

Keri West is the new City Clerk for the City of Iona. She replaces Shara Roberts, who moved.

Ketchum Mayor Neil Bradshaw named Jack Williams as the Grand Marshal of the 2018 Wagon Days Parade, which will take place on August 31. Williams arrived in Ketchum in 1977 as a photographer after seeing Sun Valley Serenade with the dream of making Sun Valley his home. For over 30 years, Williams has held the role of Santa around the holiday season in the community. Mayor Bradshaw stated, “Jack’s legacy is much more than Santa – his love, empathy, respect, and good citizenship has touched many. This is our chance to recognize the warmth he has brought to so many hearts in the chilly days of December, as well as the kindness he has spread throughout the year.”

The 2018 study of “The Top 10 Cities for Career Opportunities” by financial technology company SmartAsset lists Pocatello at number three in the nation. The report compared 355 of the country’s cities on factors like median income, unemployment rate, and annual median housing costs using data from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and United States Census Bureau. “We all know Pocatello has great employment opportunities right now,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “It is nice to see us getting national recognition as well.” The new report marks the second time in four years Pocatello has placed third in the nation and the fourth year in a row the City has been in the top 25.

The Pocatello Police Department recently applied for and received a grant from the Gavin Buchanan Memorial Foundation to purchase four ballistic vests to protect the police dogs. The vests were presented to the officers on August 7 as part of the National Night Out celebration. The Gavin Buchanan Memorial Foundation raises money and awards grants for training, ballistic vests, and other safety equipment for police canines.

CSO III Joan Lang retired from the Twin Falls Police Department on July 20 after 21 years of dedicated service to the community.

Patti Rohweder retired from the Twin Falls Police Department after 17 years of service.

Twin Falls Police Officers Scott C. Jackson, Austin S. James, and Kayla M. Schafer all graduated from the Police Officers Standards and Training Academy on June 22.

Carrie Wiltsie is the new Department Specialist for the Twin Falls Police Department in the Criminal Investigation Division.
