Check out noteworthy things being done and honors received by people in Idaho cities around the state.

Mark Holtzen is expected to be appointed as the City Engineer for the City of Twin Falls Monday, April 22.

Fire Chief Dave Hanneman recently announced that he will retire from the City of Idaho Falls Fire Department (IFFD) after 36 years in emergency services.

“Coffee with the Mayor” has returned, Mayor Brian Blad of Pocatello participates and is on hand to answer residents’ questions and hear their comments and concerns. The informal meeting series is held quarterly and gives residents who might not otherwise have a chance an opportunity to speak with their Mayor. The latest event was held on March 26.

The city of Ketchum has hired Tom Bowman, a current volunteer for the Ketchum Fire Department, to serve as Interim Fire Chief.

Mayor Tammy de Weerd of Meridian discussed her last year as mayor. She stated, “As you may have already heard, this year will be my last serving you as your Mayor. After a great deal of thought, deliberation and discussions with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election in November. This was a very personal decision and one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. Being the Mayor of Meridian has been the highest honor I could imagine. Serving alongside all of you, our citizens, our employees at the City, City Council members, our volunteers, local businesses, faith organizations, school and civic groups has been so rewarding – beyond expectations.  I have a passion for this community, so this was not an easy decision, but I plan to work hard this final year. This is not the end. We have a lot of work ahead of us this year and I’m excited to continue working with each of you. We have moved this city to great heights by working together!”

If someone in your community has done something noteworthy or received an honor that you feel should be highlighted in the People section of the newsletter, send the information to Payton by e-mail or fax 344-8677.
