Mayor Teddy Stronks will have served his City, community, and neighbors in Ashton for 30
years at the end of 2019.

Being born and raised in his hometown, Ashton Idaho, Teddy has always had a love and desire
to take care of those around him. His parent’s Ted & Mary Stronks were good examples to him.
His dad worked in the Ashton Hospital as a lab technician for many years until the doctor of the
hospital was in a fatal accident that resulted in the hospital closing. He then purchased the
lumberyard in town to help provide for his family and the community. His mother was a
beautician for over 50 years. Both parents taught Teddy early on the importance of hard work
and compassion for your fellow neighbor. Growing up, Teddy had a paper route with his brother
for many years, he was always needed to help the ladies who came to get their hair done from
his mom in the beauty shop, and his father was the first mayor in Ashton. Teddy’s parents were
always very involved in the community, especially where their businesses thrived with the
community’s support.

Today, Teddy has been the owner of Stronks & Sons lumberyard for 42 years. He and his
sweetheart, Delena have 5 children; 1 daughter and 4 sons. Among the 5 children are 9
grandchildren ranging in ages 16 to 2, with a new grandson to arrive in October. Family has
always been Teddy’s priority and love. Providing a great place to raise his family has been an
important drive for him as mayor. Because of the example of his parent’s he too has been an
example to his children and grandchildren of hard work and compassion for his community.

Teddy began his service in the City of Ashton as a City Councilman. He served in this positon
for 12 years. During that time, he was the council’s president. When the mayor he was serving
with resigned, the council elected him to become the Mayor of Ashton. Since then, Teddy has
ran 4 times for mayor. 3 of the 4 times he was opposed. Throughout the past 30 years of
serving Ashton, Teddy has done many great things for Ashton and has helped the City maintain
its uniqueness while helping it thrive and grow with the economy.

He has been instrumental in helping Ashton acquire a nice EMS building, a new Living Center for the seniors, made sure the city streets were maintained in the summer and plowed in the winter, helped keep City utility prices low for residents, completed a Wastewater project for the City water and will complete a new Sewer system this fall. Because of these efforts and successes with these large projects, the City of Ashton received an award from the EPA this spring. Mayor Teddy Stronks has been very instrumental in obtaining grants to help with improvements throughout the City, including: updating the signage within the city, street lights, sidewalks, the City Park, Ashton Swimming Pool, and currently the Multi-use Recreational Courts. He has participated in the Mayor’s walk challenge the past couple of years encouraging our youth to have healthy habits. Mayor Stronks has also been the key for Ashton to completing two community reviews from the Idaho Rural Partnership. Because of Teddy’s knowledge in the building industry, connections, and his compassionate personality he has been able to help Ashton save money and be wise in many
key decisions that have helped the City have a balanced budget.

Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can
change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Mayor Teddy Stronks has been a
remarkable leader and mayor of the City of Ashton. The City of Ashton will have some big shoes
to fill as Mayor Teddy Stronks has truly been an inspiration and blessing to his city.
