“Integrated planning is a sustainable approach to planning that builds relationships, aligns the organization, and emphasizes preparedness for change.” Planning happens at many levels of a city’s organization as well as at the county, regional and state level – generally individually. These plans provide visions for the area or the city’s future, but the multitude of plans could create conflicting priorities and, when taken as a whole, the different plans may result in negative impacts to a city. Integrated planning is when the various individual plans and planners take the other plans into consideration. For example, the state of Idaho requires each city to have a Comprehensive Plan under the Local Land Use Planning Act (LLUPA),2 but an integrated planning effort would coordinate it with the city’s strategic plan, local and regional transportation plans, building and energy efficiency requirements, emergency response plans, water use plans, and others to truly be efficient
